By 1876, Singer was claiming cumulative sales of two million stitching machines and had put the two millionth machine on display in Philadelphia. The preliminary patent, Patent No. 8294 of August 12, 1851, introduced one of the best machines on the market – and one of the outstanding males which have figured within the development of the sewing machine. Isaac Merritt Singer, strolling participant, theater manager, inventor, and millionaire, designed a brand new machine with extra capabilities that gave a robust impulse to the youthful industry. The late Nineteen Fifties and Sixties saw a period of great change at the Clydebank manufacturing facility. In 1958, Singer reduced production at their major American plant and transferred forty{4902376b3e7f524e18739e84be606177528bb68a199ce4123cdc0b11042cc5bf} of this production to the Clydebank manufacturing unit in a bid to scale back prices.
